Equal Exchange Fair Trade Class
Join Tyler Hall from Equal Exchange in the Community Room at 4001 S.Lamar on Thursday, October 17th, for a conversation about Fair Trade products and labeling. Equal Exchange is proud to support a new small farmer certification (SPP) which has come about as a result of a decade of organizing work by small farmer producer groups. We will learn a bit about the history of fair trade and more about what the SPP symbol means for consumers and producers.

On the Agenda
Owners of the co-op are invited to meet this year's board candidates, get an update on Wheatsville's BIG Direction, our annual report, hear from national food/agricultural writer Tom Philpott, and help us celebrate this year's accomplishments!
We are offering childcare during the Fall Owner Gathering 10:45am -12:15pm
Optional indoor childcare for kids over 5 will be provided for FREE in our Community Room and hosted by Growin' Together, a licensed after school provider. A volunteer artist will be in the room to help facilitate an art mural project with the kids.
We'll also have a quiet outdoor art activity hosted by Austin Eco-School for younger children or for parents who prefer would to have children close-by during the meeting.
NOTE: If you plan to check your children into either of the childcare areas, please plan to arrive a little bit early as the meeting will start right at 11AM.

Topic: Niman Ranch Sustainable Agricultural Traditions and our Family Farmers
Kay is the Director of Business Partnerships, Midwest Region. A South Dakota farmer’s daughter and now a Colorado cattle rancher in partnership with her husband and family. Kay is passionate about preserving family ranching/agricultural traditions and channels that through her work with Niman Ranch partners, chefs and retailers as well as on her family’s ranch. Kay has a MS degree in Meat Science from Colorado State University. She currently is manager of all Niman Ranch primary partnerships in the Midwest and West.
