Meat
Wheatsville offers a superior selection of smart meat solutions for consumers who support environmentally responsible animal harvesting and treatment. All meat products are chemically-free of hormones and antibiotics. If the animal is fed grain it's are always GMO free.

We proudly carry and support the efforts of local producers and ranchers including:

  • Buddy's Natural Chickens
  • Award winning Thunderheart grass-fed pasture-raised Bison
  • Bastrop Cattle Company Grass-Fed Beef
  • Richardson Farm pasture-raised pork
  • Bison Provision Company bison & venison sausages
  • Loncito's pasture-raised Lamb & Sterling Lamb
  • Dewberry Hills Farms Pasture raised poultry

Our local meat selection is great, we carry some of the best Texas has to offer. While keeping the business in Texas, we shun big industrial agri-business in support of smaller farms dedicated to years of family tradition, animal husbandry, and values that our members trust in. In essence we've brought the farmers market to you.

We always support Certified Humane products first. Our beef and pork producer Niman Ranch is well known for the intense respect for its animals and land. Based out of California Niman Ranch has been producing beef since the 1970's. Niman Ranch raises their certified 100% Black Angus beef on the pasture with full access to roam the farm, grazing on wild grasses and drinking from constant fresh water sources. They are then transitioned to the highest quality 100% vegetarian grains (corn, barley, wheat, soy and molasses). Carefully selected grains round out the flavor and results in a flawlessly marbled steak with consistently superior flavor. Niman ranch meats are normally found at high-end restaurants across the US, and local restaurants Hudson's on the Bend and Trio, can be found at Wheatsville Food Co-op. Niman ranch meats are fantastic and not like anything you've had before. Wheatsville is proud to be part of the Niman ranch family and to bring this exceptional product to our owners' dinner tables. www.nimanranch.com/control/story.html

We also carry a great line up of Applegate Farms organic and natural gluten-free lunchmeats and hotdogs. Applegate Farms is certified humane thru Certifiedhumane.com. Applegate Farms uses only grass-fed beef in their roasted beef and hot dogs.

Wheatsville Food Co-op is also committed to supporting environmentally sustainable seafood. We choose wild-caught sustainable seafood above all else. Preferring seafood caught with traditional;methods such as hand-line and long-line troll fishing as opposed to the destructive conventional practices that have decimated the natural balance of the world's fish population. We choose not to carry fish species that are over fished and only use suppliers who believe the same. We provide educational material for our members with brochures and our educated staff. All of our seafood choices are influenced by information we get from Monterey Bay Aquarium and a 6 member Seafood Advisory Board www.ecofish.com/about/advisory.htm

We believe in the importance of providing excellent food, and accurate information to our owners and the general public about our products and general state of the meat industry. We see this as a responsibility and a critical link in the line of stewardship for the environment -- one that starts off with compassionate ranchers who respect the land and animals, and most importantly ends at the dinner plate of consumers who care.
